Chanel 2011 Fall/Winter Campaign

The new Chanel Winter campaign is styled by no other than Carine Roitfeld. Now that she works freelance after her decade long run at Frech Vogue she is able to showcase her talent as an amazing and daring stylist. Freja Beha Erichsen stars again the Chanel campaign for the fifth time in a row, wearing black lace top and a Chanel mask. The shoot took place in a photobooth in Paris and photographed by no other than Karl Lagerfeld. The campaign debuts right after the Cannes film festival where Lagerfeld showcased the Chanel Cruise 2012 collection.

Street Style

As I mentioned before I indulges in some retail therapy this past weekend and while paying my visit to Urban Outfitters I spotted one very fashionable fella. He works at Urban so I had to snap his picture real quick! Tank top from Pacsun, skinny cuffed jeans from Urban Outfitters as well as his shoes and fedora. Like a true hipster he enjoys thrift stores with the occasional random finds at local stores. Thanks for the pic!

Went to La France

This past weekend I decided to have some fun. Got out of university early so my friend Rachel and I decided to go out on the town and have some fun. Oh and you can follow her political blog at thedonkeypost.blogspot.com.

But besides all of that we went to lunch and indulge in some retail therapy. We ventured out to downtown and stumbled upon a great vintage store that I never seen before but I’m sure it has been there forever. I took some pictures of our adventures and I apologize the quality is not the greatest but no worries new camera coming in the mail! Uber excited!! The store is called La France in Ybor City and thinks its one of the only stores in Tampa where you can find real vintage pieces. Check out their Facebook page and you can get a heads up on their deals. Btw the hats were amazing! For sure going back!

Carine Roitfeld New Ventures

On my previous post I mentioned an interview with former Paris Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld done by Dirk Standen for a style.com article “The Future of Fashion, Part Seven: Carine Roitfeld”. The former editor has been one of the most influential women in fashion and her unexpected leave from one of the most profitable books had a great shock to everyone. After her decade long run for Vogue she now works freelance, something she finds “Exciting”. I consider Roitfeld as one of the most powerful contemporary fashion influencers we have right now, as she is known to have friends in high places. Influential to Riccardo Tisci, Karl Lagerfeld and fashion photographer Mario Testino she has become one of today’s most prestigious editors in the fashion industry.

In this interview she talks about the excitement of starting something fresh, a new adventure after working with Vogue for such a long time. Stanten asks about her future plans in the industry, and where does she see the industry gearing towards after her ten year run. She answers by going back to her last issue as she describes young talent as the future:
My last issue is the March issue, and it’s dedicated to young designers, no advertisers, just young designers, because I think they really need the support…When you meet these kids, you learn a lot from them, and I think it gives them a lot of positive energy…I definitely want to work on a project with young designers, not just French but international…I grew up and I think I have better ideas than I had ten years ago. [For the last ten years] I didn’t have a lot of time to think about the big picture or how fashion is going to be in some years. Now it’s a good moment for me to think about fashion for today, because a lot of things have changed, and when you’re working you don’t see all these things changing. But when you stop, you can see it. You have to understand the new way of working with fashion.

Since this interview she has announced she will be working with Chanel this fall and also taking part as design editor for the Barney’s New York window advertisements. What may come from this woman is unexpected but that is why she is so profitable, she has a sense of vision found very rare in today’s society. Her chic style will continue to influence designers and fashion goers everywhere and like she says “Always I will be a risky woman. I will keep this legend.”

Givenchy: Dark and Twisty

The stage was set with beautiful purple orchids and a complete black backdrop, a perfect setting for the Fall/Winter 2011 Givenchy collection. Designer Riccado Tisci’s latest creation pays tribute to what he knows best, a way of making super sexualized clothes into chic wear all influenced by gothic art. I watched the show online a couple of hours after it walked in Paris, the collection started with a large panther roar that made sense after the first model walked down the runway as she wore a panther print skirt. There is very little to no femininity in his clothes but they still produce this manifestation of sexuality as it walks down the runway. With the interesting use of panther prints mixed in with purple orchids the designs were a continuation from the men’s RTW collection. The girls were primary dressed in all black with the exception to a couple finale looks that used floral prints and yellow loose fitting sweaters. Mostly all knee length dresses made out of leather or sheer see-through organza fabric; accessories were all influence by this panther that seems to be embodied within the clothes with cat eyed sunglasses and cat ear baseball caps.

At first take the collection seems one tone, most of it being all black but after taking some time to really digest the line I understood where Tisci was going with this collection. As former Paris Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld said in an interview, “Sometimes it takes a week to digest everything. I’m not very good just after a show. Sometimes you love it, but you don’t know why you love it. You have to digest, and after you have better answers.” and I can’t agree more with her. Every single season I begin to wonder what is going through this man’s mind as he creates an alternative reality with his clothes. From the ready-to-wear (RTW) women's and men’s collections to the Haute Couture line, his work is truly a work of art. This collection was complicated, it was captivating, and it’s what Persian fashion is all about and the reason why I heart Paris Fashion Week.

Hey Dior! Where did you go?

After the scandal broke out 4 months ago the fashion house of Christian Dior has not been the same. John Galliano caused an embarrassment and has been living underground or what he prefers to call "rehab". I have very little pity for the designer; he made disgusting antisemedic remarks in a Paris cafe and his excuse from alcohol do not make his actions tolerable.

But my question is, where is the Dior empire now? LVMH (LVMH Moët Hennessy • Louis Vuitton S.A.) announced they were not confirming who would replace Galliano but the expeculation game is always a fun one. From Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci to Alber Elbaz from Lanvin, this could be anyones game. With the Resort shows coming up the house has obviously made a decision to keep the identy of the lucky designer a secret. In the next couple of weeks we will see who got the job and I'm expeculating Tisci got it. Sadly who will take over Givenchy? Tisci's gothic chic has revamped the brand and created a larger new following. I’m not sure how his take on the classic Dior design will influence his dark and sheer fashion but this will be a very interesting one for sure. With only 5 months into the year fashion houses have taken big hits with Balmain, Dior, Chloe all changing creative directors I’m very excited to see the Resort and Spring collections each brand will produce.

What Will Michelle Obama Wear?

Earlier today I tweeted wondering who Michelle Obama’s new stylist might be, this all came about after reading one of my favorite blogs “The New York Times: The Cut” where they broke the news of what the first lady wore to the Buckingham Palace Banquet during the presidential visit in London. In the last year we have seen the first lady’s style progress and become more riske, which leads me to wonder who is styling Michelle Obama?

First was the famous Alexander McQueen red dress during the Chinese State Dinner, which in my opinion it got an unnecessary negative backlash and started the question if she changed stylist. The dress was flawless, a great representation of the first lady and her love for Persian fashion. Yes, this might have been a bit daring by not wearing an American designer but that’s old news. The dress she wore to the Buckingham Palace Banquet was another bold choice and one of my personal favorites. Disregard my mild obsession with Tom Ford, but this white gown was truly incredible. She is no longer wearing “Black House/ White Market” and switching to cooler, trendier and may I say fashion forward brands. Now we are on the edge of our seats waiting for what she might be wearing next, and I’m sure she will not disappoint.

De la Renta: Out to Conquer

Oscar de la Renta latest 2012 Resort collection brings the designer back to his Spanish roots with influence from Spanish cubist artist Picasso and the time of the conquistadors. Doing something different than the traditional American ball gowns we usually see on the red carpet, to giving his clients a sense of Spaniard luxury. De la Renta preferred to show his new collection in the incomplete showroom (opening this fall) in the middle of Manhattan rather from his traditional showcase in Park Avenue. This collection is larger than the average resort collection with 62 looks, but the girls walked down the runway ready to conquer the world.

Spanish influence came from everywhere in this collection, from the flamingo hats to the conquistador bangles and necklaces. He took us back into the history of Spain and Spaniard architecture with bright colors dresses and structure accessories. The black and white cubist patterns with the digital color prints (look #29) gave the collection a fresh feel his admires will be eager to wear. The Spaniard luxury was felt from royal gowns to the colorful sundresses giving the audience a fresh take on the clothes, severely different from his fur filled Fall/Winter collection. The new show proves the flexibility of the designer, where the sun will continue to shine bright for de la Renta as he conquers Manhattan women.

This Should Be Interesting

I’m not much of a writer but might as well give this blogging a shot, how hard can it really be? If Paris Hilton can do it I’m sure I can. I’m probably going to just talk about my own interpretation of style and fashion with the occasional post about myself. Since this is a blog might as well make it a little about me and the random stuff I might find. I will be updating the blog as often as I can get around to it with new fashion news, great finds in my area and sometimes even about new music releases that I have to share with the world. I’ve always wanted to start a blog and finally I am getting around on doing it.  I want to start the boom now phenomenon of keeping readers up to date on many interest so keep checking back for any new fun post.

If you want to know a little more about me feel free to follow me on twitter @boomnow_ and I will most likely reply to anything you might have to say. I post pictured there regularly through twitpic anyways but I will try and have them also posted on the blog.  Okay this was the first out of many more to come.
