Givenchy: Couture Detail
The one couture show that seems to break out more than all of them has to be the work of Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. This season he continued to play with the idea of detail on the garments which made them one of a kind piece, taking 8 months to complete the garments. Couture is much different from the ready to wear (RTW) collection; they are not made for what’s on trend but more for the consumers who values timeless pieces of clothing. Givenchy is known for the exceptional detail and craftsmanship that goes into the clothes. Unlike other fashion houses Givenchy has stopped producing a large fashion show for couture and concentrated primarily on the clothing by doing a small presentation for editors and fashion insiders.
This is a small collection of ten looks, but very strong detailed ten looks. There is a sense of purity and lightness in the clothes, fundamentally from the white and sheer motif in the clothes. All of this seems completely different from the darkness and gothic style we are accustomed on seeing from Tisci, but this is a couture vision that speaks from his heart. It’s truly hard to believe all of this work has been done by hand, stitch by stitch and Tisci is one designer who creative mind will continue to fascinate every fashion lover.

Tom Ford 2011 Fall/Winter Campaign
As you guys might already know I have a great love for anything Tom Ford and his latest fall campaign is not exception. I admire his creative talent as he usually shoots his own campaigns much like Lagerfeld, but this time around he got the help of Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. You guys might recognize their name from their short lived Bravo TV show. This campaign features Candice Swanepoel for his womenswear collection and fashion house favorite Jon Kortajarena who was has been the face for the brand on and off for many seasons. Kortajarena was also featured in Ford's film A Single Man in 2009.

Marc Jacobs 2011 Fall/Winter Campaign
This has been one of the most rumored fall campaigns for Marc Jacobs, the pictures leaked about a week ago of actress Helena Bonham Carter wearing the designer’s fall collection for what it seemed to be an ad campaign. The actress wore the designer’s resort look at the Screen Actor Guild Awards this past award season. In the first picture she seems sick with spots on her face and body, and the second picture she’s begging like a dog. This is a quirky ad, something to be expected from a quirky designer and quirky actress.

Tom Ford: Fresh and Dark
This may be the second collection coming from the Tom Ford fashion house, but this seasoned designer takes high fashion womenswear to a whole another level. In this collection the designer gravitates to a darker gothic appeal with fur coats and black lace. The crocodile tote bags, lace knee length boots, strappy jeweled heels and fur accessories really demonstrate the talent of this award winning designer. His high end buyers who seek ultimate luxury will come back to the reigns of former Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent creative director. Ford presents his collection a bit later than the usual fashion crowd, since he feels we are too consumed by the collections a year after we seen it on the runways. I love Tom Ford and by him delivering his look book in a video just makes any fashion fanatic go a bit nuts. I have replayed this video over 10 times already trying to grasp everything.

Givenchy: Dark and Twisty
The stage was set with beautiful purple orchids and a complete black backdrop, a perfect setting for the Fall/Winter 2011 Givenchy collection. Designer Riccado Tisci’s latest creation pays tribute to what he knows best, a way of making super sexualized clothes into chic wear all influenced by gothic art. I watched the show online a couple of hours after it walked in Paris, the collection started with a large panther roar that made sense after the first model walked down the runway as she wore a panther print skirt. There is very little to no femininity in his clothes but they still produce this manifestation of sexuality as it walks down the runway. With the interesting use of panther prints mixed in with purple orchids the designs were a continuation from the men’s RTW collection. The girls were primary dressed in all black with the exception to a couple finale looks that used floral prints and yellow loose fitting sweaters. Mostly all knee length dresses made out of leather or sheer see-through organza fabric; accessories were all influence by this panther that seems to be embodied within the clothes with cat eyed sunglasses and cat ear baseball caps.
At first take the collection seems one tone, most of it being all black but after taking some time to really digest the line I understood where Tisci was going with this collection. As former Paris Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld said in an interview, “Sometimes it takes a week to digest everything. I’m not very good just after a show. Sometimes you love it, but you don’t know why you love it. You have to digest, and after you have better answers.” and I can’t agree more with her. Every single season I begin to wonder what is going through this man’s mind as he creates an alternative reality with his clothes. From the ready-to-wear (RTW) women's and men’s collections to the Haute Couture line, his work is truly a work of art. This collection was complicated, it was captivating, and it’s what Persian fashion is all about and the reason why I heart Paris Fashion Week.
