Savage Beauty at the Met

In New York I also went to the Alexander McQueen exhibit which was absolutely incredible, breath taking even. The museum did not let visitor take pictures but thanks to my little camera phone I was able to snap a couple of shots of his last Spring 2010 collection and one Givenchy Couture dress (sorry for the poor quality). The rest of the pictures are of my friend Lea Zora and I outside of the Metropolitan museum.

Menswear Recap

Okay I've been on vacation (pictures to come) so I haven’t been able to blog for over a week, probably more like 2 weeks now. I didn't finish the menswear shows and the complete review on them. I didn’t even cover Couture, along with fashion news and Kate Middleton American adventure. Woah I really fell behind with all of this and I had so much to say. Now I understand why bloggers carry small netbooks where ever they travel, keeping up with all of it wasn’t that bad thanks to my smartphone.

Going back to menswear: okay I talked about John Galliano, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Band of Outsiders, Balmain, Givenchy, Missoni, and Burberry Prorsum. I wish I had more time to cover more shows but I had no time what so ever, some of the shows that deserved to be covered were: Alexander McQueen, Mugler, Hermès. There was chic and adventure coming from these shows that really made an impact on the runway in Paris and Milan.

This season we saw something more interesting than the usual tailored suits that come from the menswear shows. Maybe it was the loud impact of the Mugler show which brought us modern Greek superheros or the Rock and Roll motif we saw in Lanvin and Alexander McQueen but one thing is for sure the Spring 2012 collections will be a hit for retailers. One of my favorite pieces from the Mugler show was the denim look, Nicola Formichetti brought the idea of the the whole denim outfit but toward the modern Greek hero with the silver chocker.

Along with all the craziness  of some of the shows there were some travelers chic collections like Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Balenciaga that really made me look twice and admire the well tailor clothing. They brought clean lines and tailored clothing which the modern man will fall in love with. Traveling apparel was eminent in Vuitton and Hermès with bags meant for travel and apparel meant to be worn in a world wide adventure. Balenciaga in the other hand went with cleaner cuts and lines by color blocking, tailor suits and jackets.

The last important trend of the season was the surprising use of prints, obviously Prada with their floral golf collection but also Burberry and Givenchy which presented digital prints. I'm usually skeptical with the use of prints but the collections did an amazing job really translating it to a whole another level for consumers to appreciate.

Addicted Much?

Lanvin Fall/Winter 2009

This might be a bit long overdue of how I got into blogging but here we go, I have to think back where all of this started. At first I thought when did I start enjoying fashion as a whole but I have always been passionate about fashion. Maybe it was my upbringing in Miami Florida where all you see are labels and what people are wearing but that wasn't it. Yes I was interested in the clothes and I was the typical young person being a label whore but what got me into blogging about high fashion is something way beyond that.

I then thought of the first collection that brought me into the love and passion I have for high fashion. The collection that gave me chills and I wait every season to watch online and probably watch more than once. At first I thought Alexander McQueen Spring 2010, the designer’s last collection and yes that collection made a huge impact on my view towards fashion but that wasn’t it. It all started one season before that and it was Lanvin Fall/Winter 2009, I remember watching the show after rumors surface of Alber Elbaz would replace Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. I have to be honest, I had no idea what Lanvin was and I was pronouncing it all wrong for a good 2 months but man this collection gave me a whole new outlook in fashion. I was fascinated by each look as it walked down, the girls seemed so empowered something that you don’t normally see in the American shows.

Lanvin is the collection I look forward to each season. No matter what I’m doing I make sure I put it in my calendar and watch it after it walks. I even research the calendar of the Paris shows, which are my favorites if you can’t already tell and wait for them to be uploaded on style.com. So there you have it Lanvin started my mild obsession with fashion houses and now I blog about it. I eat and breathe thinking about fashion after that show, I even dream about shows sometimes. What Will Michelle Obama Wear?

Earlier today I tweeted wondering who Michelle Obama’s new stylist might be, this all came about after reading one of my favorite blogs “The New York Times: The Cut” where they broke the news of what the first lady wore to the Buckingham Palace Banquet during the presidential visit in London. In the last year we have seen the first lady’s style progress and become more riske, which leads me to wonder who is styling Michelle Obama?

First was the famous Alexander McQueen red dress during the Chinese State Dinner, which in my opinion it got an unnecessary negative backlash and started the question if she changed stylist. The dress was flawless, a great representation of the first lady and her love for Persian fashion. Yes, this might have been a bit daring by not wearing an American designer but that’s old news. The dress she wore to the Buckingham Palace Banquet was another bold choice and one of my personal favorites. Disregard my mild obsession with Tom Ford, but this white gown was truly incredible. She is no longer wearing “Black House/ White Market” and switching to cooler, trendier and may I say fashion forward brands. Now we are on the edge of our seats waiting for what she might be wearing next, and I’m sure she will not disappoint.
