This week the shoe company TOMS who are known for their buy a pair of shoes and we will give one back to a child in need campaign has introduced eyewear to their mission statement. When I first heard about this I was a bit skeptical on how this would actually work with sunglasses. So would me buying a pair of sunglasses give one pair back to children?
Obviously that would not be the objective, the company now has paired with the Seva Foundation to provide medical treatment in third world countries. For each pair of sunglasses TOMS will essentially help provide medical treatment, prescription glasses and sight-saving surgery to those in need. This sounds great and they will help those in need but charging $135-145 for a pair of sunglasses seems a lot to me. I guess I will have to wait for them to hit stores to make an accurate decision on the quality and see if they are actually worth the money but overall this seems great. I love when companies are willing to give back and TOMS is taking the initiative by helping others around the world. Their One for One campaign will help millions of children and adults and now I’m just wondering what will come next with from brand.

Chloë Sevingny for Opening Ceremony
Actress turn designer Chloë Sevingny continues her work at Opening Ceremony after her highly successful seasons. Sevingny might be successful as a fashion designer but that may be for her sense of adventurous style that catches any fashion goer’s eye. This time around she opted to not hold a showroom presentation but a full on runway show where her fashion friends like Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez attended. Like I have said before, I’m very skeptical when actors or musicians turn designers but Sevingny does a good job at it, and knows the girl who she is designing for.
Sevingny describes the collection as a “sexy teen dream” but all I saw was Jenny Humphrey (Gossip Girl fan here) going nut for every look that walked down the runway. In a twisted way I liked it, the designer brought an edge to the collection with the leather lace dresses and fun leopard prints. The shoes were another story: pearl studded penny loafers, platform sneakers and strappy heels. The looks were edgy; my favorite was the laced leather skirts and dresses that I haven’t seen in any recent collection, let alone a resort collection. There is a downtown girl in Sevingy and she wants to share it with the world with a punk look and badass attitude.

Burberry Fall /Winter 2011 Campaign
The latest Burberry campaign features only British native actors and models. Newcomers Amber Anderson, Molly Smith, Thomas Penfound, and Felicity Jones were the lucky ones chosen to be featured for the British luxury fashion house. Photographed my Mario Testino on a solid background bringing out the colors of the iconic coats.

Herrera: Uptown Chic
With the Resort collections coming out all at once is hard to keep up with all of them, but then collections like Carolina Herrera happen. They make you stop and look at the clothes; her latest collection could be my favorite collection so far in the resort season with so much sophistication that it’s way too hard to over look. The Venezuelan designer presented her collection in her studio with models wearing light makeup and hair styled up adding to the sophisticated motif. The girls were dressed with graphic skirts, dressed, trench coats and scarves. She also added polka dots to this collection but still maintained the uptown chic in the collection with button up shirts and evening gowns.
The highlights of this collection were not the accessories, but the apparel. Herrera knows who her clients are, the Upper East Side women who crave a sophisticated look which she delivers but still have fun with the clothes and that’s where the polka dots come in. The evening gowns were made out of a sheer fabric, polka dots and tulle, all very different but worked individually in the evening looks. This is the reason why Herrera is known for around the world, she delivers class and sophistication to women. This collection is truly one of the best collections so far and there are more to come.

Marc Jacobs: Youth Revolt
This resort collection could not be any more different than what designer Marc Jacobs showed us for fall a couple months back. In his latest 2012 collection, like many other designers, takes us to a sun filled destination where we can just be ourselves. This might be because of the cold winter we experienced and we are now ready to enjoy the sun. The clothes were very organic but at the same time very youthful with easy flowing silhouettes, jeweled crop tops, daisy patters and bright tulle. The girls were primarily in flats which were ballerina inspired or decorated by large crystals. The use of the metallic fabric did bring something different to the collection, giving it a sense of chic that his loyal customers will be eager to get their hands on.
Last night the designer received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) for his work in fashion not only with his namesake brand but also at Louis Vuitton. Overall the collection was fun, easy flowing something we have been missing from Jacobs but I’m more excited to see what he will show for spring in the next coming months.

Best Dressed?
I’m always iffy on who would I consider best dressed at award shows. It usually takes a combination of four factors to name a best dressed; style, hair, confidence and overall look. Sunday night I watched the MTV Movie Awards and saw the Hollywood starlets walk down the red carpet showing of what they got. Normally I’m disappointed on the looks because these girls usually don’t even make an effort at these kinds of shows. Let’s just look at Kristen Steward for example; come on we can do better than that even though she was wearing a great Balmain red mini. But this year the girls made the effort and looked amazing! Like Rachel Zoe would say, they shut it down! Like always Blake lively looking amazing, but surprisingly not wearing the usual Chanel or Emilio Pucci, this time around she went for a blue Michael Kors dress with cut pattern on the side. But best dressed went to Emma Stone for really shutting it down in Bottega Veneta, this dress fit the occasion and looked great on her. The hair was flawless; the leather knitted Bottega clutch paired with satin pumps gave her a great overall look. I was pleasantly surprised when she walked the red carpet; I hope she continues to use the same stylist for now on. Comments?

Missoni: Zig Zag World
Who doesn’t love a collection that fills the room with just color, the latest Missoni Resort 2012 collection brought us to a very zig zag filled world. The background of the presentation was very busy and took away from the clothes but looking beyond that this Missoni collection takes us to a very psychedelic time in history. Paying tribute to what they are known for with vibrant colors and swirls that will make fashion goers go nuts for. The collection featured many head pieces which seem a must among the resort collections; turbans, headbands, and blue hats. Another must have item are the wedges which will be a for sure hit, with zig zag platforms and swirl designs. The collection was interesting, I still have some mixed feelings towards it but overall there are some great pieces in there that will grab many buyers attention.

Fashion Crime: Jorts!
There is a crime that most American males commit every minute or maybe every second in this country. I wish someone will just tell Americans we should no longer fabricate jean shorts or what some call jorts. I know this might sound a bit silly for me to be blogging about but this is a huge pet peeve of mine. Every single day I see some man walking around wearing some shorts he probably got at Walmart and thinks he looks snazzy. This is probably because I live in Florida and people just seem to think it’s okay to walk around with jean shorts; come on people we don’t longer live in the 90’s. To be honest jorts would be a huge deal breaker but that’s just me and you guys might have boyfriends or friends that love their jean shorts.
In other words I’m taking this blog post to apologize for looking at those who wear them a little weird, I just can’t help it but wonder what made guys go out and buy them. But okay I’m not going to sit here and judge because I do have a pair of jorts myself but mine are kinda cool. I did them myself, well not completely because I can’t sew. I took an old pair of Hollister jeans that I no longer wore and decided to bleach them and then cut them. I have actually done this to a couple of my old worn out jeans and it turns out great! Gives your jeans a whole new life and it feels like you have a brand new pair. I took some pictures of my favorite pair so you guys can take a look. So if you guys decide to commit a fashion crime like this please be creative about it and wear them like a badass, and again I’m sorry for judging people who buy them.

Lucy In Disguise: Lily Allen
This is the first collection for Lily Allen and her sister, Sarah Owen, named Lucy in Disguise. They both share a love for vintage fashion which is where they found the inspiration for this collection. I’m always hesitant when celebrity turn designers and I don’t know how much of credibility I can actually give them but some have proved me wrong, look at Gwen Stefani L.A.M.B. she has built a credible brand after her musical success. The girls present a collection raging from day dresses to formal jumpsuits, some embellishes with jewels and some dresses with interesting prints. If you have seen Lily Allen in the press then you can see where the signer has gotten her inspiration, the clothes all show a bit of Allen with the black dresses and quirky prints on the dresses. It will be interesting how the clothes will be received by the public.

| Lanvin Fall/Winter 2009 |
I then thought of the first collection that brought me into the love and passion I have for high fashion. The collection that gave me chills and I wait every season to watch online and probably watch more than once. At first I thought Alexander McQueen Spring 2010, the designer’s last collection and yes that collection made a huge impact on my view towards fashion but that wasn’t it. It all started one season before that and it was Lanvin Fall/Winter 2009, I remember watching the show after rumors surface of Alber Elbaz would replace Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. I have to be honest, I had no idea what Lanvin was and I was pronouncing it all wrong for a good 2 months but man this collection gave me a whole new outlook in fashion. I was fascinated by each look as it walked down, the girls seemed so empowered something that you don’t normally see in the American shows.
Lanvin is the collection I look forward to each season. No matter what I’m doing I make sure I put it in my calendar and watch it after it walks. I even research the calendar of the Paris shows, which are my favorites if you can’t already tell and wait for them to be uploaded on style.com. So there you have it Lanvin started my mild obsession with fashion houses and now I blog about it. I eat and breathe thinking about fashion after that show, I even dream about shows sometimes. Well much love readers and keep on reading I really appreciate it!

Tom Ford: Now and Then
Since I first got consumed by the fascination of fashion one of my personal favorite designers has been Tom Ford. This man is hands down the best menswear designer out there and now with his release of womenswear, worn recently by the First Lady Michelle Obama, his craft is truly magnificent. I heard about the interview he did with CNN and I had to share with you guys. He talks about the years he spent working at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, and also his relationship with YSL himself. Can you believe he used to produce 16 collections a year? A must watch interview!

Yves Saint Laurent: Nautical Appeal
In the latest Yves Saint Laurent 2012 Resort Collection we see a drastic change from what creative director Stefano Pilati showed in Paris a couple months back for Fall. This time around he takes the girls out of the European glamour of full white and black gowns to great nautical look ready to hit the nearest beach resort. The girls walked with ease as they were ready to go on vacation with their high wooden shoe pumps, a for sure hit for YSL lovers.
One of my favorite looks was look 8, still sticking to the bright color story but showing a classic Yves Saint Laurent trench coat in a modern way with cropped v-shaped tailoring and hidden top buttons. The collection over all felt different, maybe a bit refreshed to what we usually see from Pilati with high wasted shorts and anchor prints all over some of the dresses but still keeping the Yves Saint Laurent luxury we all love.

Missoni For Everyone!
For those who know me I'm not the biggest fan of Target but after their announcement via twiter of the collaboration with Italian fashion house Missoni my excitement is off the roof. Sadly the collection won’t be in stores until September but the excitement is still there after they announced 400+ items will be featured, including apparel, accessories, linens and even home furnishing. In an interview with Vogue, Missoni creative director Angela Missoni shares her thrill with the collaboration, “It’s been a fantastic experience, one we are eager to share with families across the United States.” Missoni being a traditional family fashion house, Americans will be thrilled to have a piece of tradition with the Missoni brand at an affordable price tag. So get ready Missoni lovers for their signature zig zags and swirls to hit Target very soon! Save your pennies!
